Hardcover Good Hardcover Good This is a first Edition book printed in 1914 and is therefore 106 years old I am describing it as good but it has some stains on the boards The pages do have light tanning Please see photos It maybe possible to clean the stainsI have wiped the boards with a disinfectant wipe only Please also see notation on previous owner of this book This book comes from a personal library collection formerly owned by Dr Elaine (Bauer) Campbell of Sudbury, Massachusetts Dr Campbell was an alumna of the University of Pennsylvania, and Brandeis University where she obtained her PHD She was a scholar and teacher of Caribbean literature and other subjects at Boston University Regis College, Northeastern University and MIT as well as working at the MITRE Institute teaching technical writing Dr Campbell was also an author of and editor of several books including of note: [the] ""ESL Resource Book for Engineers and Scientists"", ""The Whistling Bird, [Women Writers of the Caribbean]"" and ""The Flamboyant Tree: Caribbean Folklore and Herblore"" A complete list of the books in this collection is being processed and will be available soon.

Bound in publishers blue cloth with illustrated paper boards. Boards are rubbed thru at tips, soiled and chipped, spine is still bright with rubbing at top and base. Front and rear hinges starting, previous owners signature inside front cover in pencil, pages unmarked but showing some finger soiling and/or foxing. Still a delightful copy of this scarce book.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Herbert Paus (illustrator). 1st Edition. PUBLISHER: Dodd, Mead and Co. DATE/EDITION: 1913, first edition, same date with no added printings indicated, states published Oct., 1913 BINDING: Hardbound in light blue cloth with gold lettering on the front cover and spine, a full color paste down illustration on the front cover, top page ends gilt. Illustrated end papers, color tipped in frontispiece with tissue guard and 18 black and white plates throughout the book. DUST JACKET: the jacket has an oval cut out to show the front cover paste down. There are four rips around the cutout without paper loss and a two inch section at the top of the oval that is missing. The jacket is in a protective cover and still presents well. BOOK CONDITION: Very mild rubbing at the spine ends, covers are very clean and the paste down is intact and very attractive. Spine lettering is clearer than it appears in the scanned image. The binding is tight and the interior is very clean and unmarked. All plates are present, secure and in very good condition. DESCRIPTION: Translated by Alexander Teixeira De Mattos and illustrated by Herbert Paus.
